DIa de esperanza
Project Description
Chelsea’s recognition of All Souls Day takes inspiration from the Sumpango Kite Festival held in Santiago Sacatepéquez, Guatemala. Through September and October members of the community create kites, sometimes alone but more often with others, and use this time to reflect and share experiences of grief and loss.
The kites are brought together in a display at Gallery 456 on November 2. That day, outside the exhibition space, passersby are invited to refreshments including colada morada, to make tissue paper flowers and to write their message to send to the heavens on kite tails. The display remains on display throughout the month of November.
This event was cancelled for 2020. See you next year.
