Chelsea to Celebrate 4th Annual Día de los Muertos with Multicultural Event at Washington Park
Event Highlights Include African Rhythms, Cultural Performances, and a Community Altar
Chelsea, MA — October 7, 2024 — Chelsea’s annual Día de los Muertos celebration returns for its fourth year, bringing together the community in a vibrant, multicultural event on Saturday, November 2, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Washington Park. This year’s celebration will offer an unforgettable experience with a blend of music, art, culture, and a communal altar to honor loved ones.
Since its inception three years ago, Chelsea’s Día de los Muertos has grown from a small altar installation in Chelsea Square to a full-scale cultural event, complete with mariachi bands, traditional dancers, and now, a special performance by Crocodile River Music, whose African rhythms and sounds will inspire and captivate the audience.
“We’re excited to see how the celebration has evolved, and this year’s event will be our most
diverse and dynamic yet,” said event curator Edwardo Chacón of Jukebox Event. “Día de los
Muertos is an ancient tradition, and this year, we’re deepening our understanding of its
significance by recognizing the ways it resonates across cultures, reminding us of the ties that unite us beyond borders.”
As part of the celebration, a community altar will be installed in the days leading up to the event. Community members are encouraged to place photos or flowers on the altars to honor their loved ones, creating a space for reflection and remembrance.
In preparation for the celebration, local artist Kyle Browne will lead a creative workshop on
Monday, October 21, at the Chelsea Public Library Auditorium from 5 - 7:30pm. Participants are invited to bring a photo of a loved one and create personalized offerings to be
placed on the altars. The workshop is open to all and no registration is required.
